Comprehensive Learning Disability Evaluations That Help Families Better Understand How Their Child Learns

Child working on a learning activity with support from an educator

Every child learns in their own way. While some children master new skills with little difficulty, others may struggle with reading, writing, mathematics, or processing information despite putting forth significant effort and receiving quality instruction. When learning becomes consistently challenging, families often begin looking for answers that can help explain why.

At ANCKRD, we provide comprehensive learning disability assessments designed to better understand how your child learns. Our evaluations examine cognitive abilities, academic achievement, information processing, executive functioning, and other factors that influence learning. Rather than focusing only on areas of difficulty, we also identify individual strengths that can be used to support future growth and academic success.

Led by Kristen Wilson, LPES, NCSP, every evaluation is individualized, evidence-based, and focused on providing families with meaningful answers and practical recommendations. Whether concerns have recently emerged or have been present for several years, our goal is to help families better understand their child's learning profile and move forward with confidence.

Who May Benefit from a Learning Disability Assessment?

A learning disability evaluation may be appropriate for children or adolescents who:

  • Have ongoing difficulty learning to read despite receiving instruction
  • Read below grade level or struggle with reading fluency and comprehension
  • Experience persistent spelling or writing challenges
  • Have difficulty organizing thoughts when completing written assignments
  • Struggle to understand or apply mathematical concepts
  • Demonstrate slower academic progress than expected
  • Become frustrated or anxious with schoolwork
  • Have concerns identified by parents, teachers, or other professionals
  • May benefit from educational accommodations or intervention planning
  • Have questions about dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, or other learning differences

Learning challenges can have many different causes. A comprehensive assessment helps identify the underlying factors affecting academic performance while recognizing each child's unique strengths and learning potential.

Our Learning Disability Assessment Process

Every family's experience is a little different, but most evaluations move through the following steps. Throughout the process, our priority is to keep you informed, comfortable, and supported.

  1. 1

    Initial Consultation

Every evaluation begins with a complimentary consultation where we discuss your concerns, your child's educational history, developmental background, and the goals of the assessment. This conversation helps determine whether a comprehensive learning disability evaluation is the most appropriate next step.

  2. 2

    Comprehensive Background Review

We gather detailed information regarding developmental history, educational records, previous evaluations, classroom performance, parent concerns, teacher observations, and current academic functioning to develop a complete understanding of your child's learning experiences.

  3. 3

    Individualized Assessment

Assessment may include standardized academic achievement testing, cognitive assessment, information processing measures, executive functioning evaluation, behavioral rating scales, and other evidence-based tools appropriate for your child's needs.

  4. 4

    Feedback Session

After the evaluation is complete, we meet with you to review the findings in clear and understandable language. We discuss your child's strengths, areas of need, answer your questions, and walk through recommendations that can support academic success.

  5. 5

    Comprehensive Written Report

Families receive a detailed written report summarizing assessment findings, diagnostic conclusions when appropriate, and individualized recommendations that can guide educational planning, intervention services, and classroom accommodations.

Individualized Recommendations That Support Academic Success

A learning disability assessment is designed to provide more than a diagnosis. It offers practical recommendations that families, educators, and other professionals can use to support a child's continued growth and confidence in learning. Depending on what the assessment reveals, recommendations may include:

Educational accommodations
Individualized instructional strategies
Reading intervention recommendations
Writing support strategies
Mathematics intervention planning
Classroom accommodations
Parent support strategies
Educational planning
Community resources
Referrals to additional professionals when appropriate

Every recommendation is personalized to reflect your child's strengths, learning style, and individual educational needs.
